The Day Bodhi Almost Got a Little Brother

Bob Karp November 30, 2025

From the ‘I swear this really happened department’

I was going to save this story for my memoir, but the tenth anniversary has me feeling a little nostalgic.

December 29, 2014- Philadelphia, PA. Claudia, Andrea, and I were visiting for the day, taking in the post-Christmas, pre-New Year’s sights.

After a stop at the Mutter Museum, we were walking down Market Street when a woman in her 30s approached us and asked, “Can you watch my baby?”

Before we could even respond, she handed us the stroller, sprinted across the street, and disappeared from view.

So there we were, standing on Market Street with a baby, already wondering how we’d raise him, what schools he’d attend, and who he’d grow up to become.

About five (very long) minutes later, the mom reappeared. She thanked us, and I asked how she knew she could trust us. Without the slightest smile, she said, “You look harmless.”

Christian, that was his name, should be twelve or thirteen years old now. I think about him and his mom every year. I hope they had a beautiful Christmas, and I hope all their dreams come true in 2025.

I know it’s crazy to think we could ever find Christian and his mom but if anyone out there in Philly could help?
